We are searching for a Registered Nurse to join our team at Inverary Manor in Inverness, Nova Scotia, in the role of Direct Care Educator (non-union).
The Direct Care Educator is an education-focused role dedicated to supporting frontline staff through hands-on teaching, coaching, and mentorship. This position is designed to strengthen daily care practices, support staff growth, and promote resident-centred care through learning and practical skill development.
This is not a supervisory or enforcement role. The Direct Care Educator works alongside Continuing Care Assistants (CCAs) and nursing staff, providing education, guidance, and support in a collaborative and approachable manner.

About the Job
The Direct Care Educator focuses on education, orientation, and ongoing skill development for direct care staff.
Key responsibilities include:

Providing hands-on education and coaching to CCAs and nursing staff in daily care practices

Supporting staff in applying safe, respectful, and person-centred care approaches
-
Acting as a resource for questions, learning, and skill reinforcement at the point of care

Playing a lead role in orientation, supporting new employees as they learn routines, expectations, and care practices

Following staff closely during their probationary period, identifying learning needs early and supporting confidence and competence in their roles

Designing and delivering practical, accessible education sessions, including but not limited to:

Lift and Transfer Safety

Palliative Care education
-
Food Handlers Certification
-
Fire Safety
-
Dementia: Understanding the Journey

Grow-Your-Own CCA programming
-

Supporting staff in identifying learning goals and opportunities for growth

Collaborating with Human Resources and Clinical Care to ensure education aligns with onboarding, retention, and quality care practices

Supporting quality and safety through education, coaching, and review of practice trends

Working with staff in a supportive, non-punitive manner to address learning gaps and strengthen practice
Additional Duties

In certain circumstances, the Direct Care Educator may be required to work Registered Nurse shifts.

Primarily daytime hours, with rotating weekend shifts

Other related duties may be assigned as required
About You
You are a Registered Nurse who enjoys teaching, supporting, and encouraging others, and who brings creativity and resourcefulness to education and skill development.
You bring:

Registration as a Registered Nurse (RN) in good standing with the Nova Scotia College of Nursing

Experience in long-term care or a comparable continuing care environment

Experience in education, orientation, coaching, or mentorship

Strong understanding of person-centred care and dementia care

A patient, supportive, and approachable style

Strong communication and interpersonal skills
-
Valid CPR & First Aid Certification

Ability to provide a clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening upon hire
