About the role
Inverary Manor is hiring a Care Navigator to support quality, resident-centered care and clinical operations at our long-term care home in Inverness, NS.
Reporting to the Director, Clinical Care, this is a full-time leadership support position, scheduled on a 7-day rotation of 8-hour daytime shifts (8:00am – 4:00pm). This is a non-union role focused on care administration, coordination, staff onboarding, and admission processes. There may be occasional direct care responsibilities based on operational needs.
While there are no scheduled evening or holiday shifts, there may be a requirement to support outside of regular hours during exceptional circumstances. Time off will be provided in lieu of any overtime worked.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct and administrative support to the Director, Clinical Care on clinical planning, staffing, and decision-making
- Coordinate staff orientation and education for nursing team members
- Manage resident admissions, referrals, and transition planning
- Support quality improvement audits and resident safety initiatives
- Foster teamwork, leadership, and accountability across clinical teams
- Serve as a delegate for the Director, Clinical Care during periods of absence, ensuring continuity of clinical leadership and operations.
Qualifications
- RN with active registration in Nova Scotia (BScN preferred)
- 3–5 years’ experience in Canadian long-term care or a leadership/coordination role
- Strong background in clinical education, care planning, or staff development
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and comfortable with documentation systems
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills

Position Summary:
The Clinical Resource Nurse – IPAC, Wound Care, and Education is responsible for leading and supporting best practices in infection prevention and control (IPAC), wound care, and clinical education across the facility. This role ensures the delivery of safe, evidence-based, person-centered care in accordance with Nova Scotia Health guidelines, and provincial long-term care regulations.
The nurse collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to reduce infection risks, promote optimal wound healing, and support ongoing staff development and knowledge translation. This role is both clinical and office settings with occasional evening or weekend education sessions.

Key Responsibilities:
Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC):
- Implements and monitors IPAC policies and procedures in alignment with NS Health and Public Health guidance.
- Conducts surveillance, outbreak management, and reporting of communicable diseases.
- Provides leadership in hand hygiene, PPE use, environmental cleaning practices, and antimicrobial stewardship.
- Trains staff on IPAC principles and compliance.
- Conducts audits and supports quality improvement initiatives related to infection control.
Wound Care:
- Provides consultation, assessment, and support for complex wounds, pressure injuries, and skin integrity issues.
- Develops individualized wound care plans and collaborates with the care team on implementation.
- Monitors wound healing outcomes and updates treatment protocols based on best practices.
- Trains staff in wound assessment, prevention, and management strategies.
Clinical Education & Practice Support:
- Designs and delivers educational programs alongside Director of Care to support clinical skill development, policy updates, and quality care initiatives.
- Promotes the use of evidence-based practice, clinical guidelines, and nursing standards.
- Supports staff competency assessments and continuing education needs.
- Collaborates with leadership on staff development planning and performance improvement.
Qualifications:
- Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in good standing with the Nova Scotia College of Nursing (NSCN)
- Minimum 3–5 years of Canadian nursing experience, preferably in long-term care, public health, or acute care
- Certification or advanced training in: Infection Prevention and Control (e.g., IPAC Canada – CIC or equivalent) , Wound Care (e.g., International Interdisciplinary Wound Care Course – IIWCC, or equivalent)
- Adult education or clinical teaching experience an asset
- Knowledge of NS Health IPAC and LTC regulations
- Strong communication, assessment, and coaching skills

- Provides leadership and delegates tasks to OT/PT Staff.
- Works with Management and OT/PT Staff to promote communication and compliance on company policies and procedures;
- Administers and interprets standardized and non-standardized tests and evaluations to assess resident with occupational therapy related concerns such as level of independence in activities of daily living, seating and mobility, swallowing and meal texture, pressure reduction and skin integrity, splinting.
- Develops individualized treatment plans based on clinical records, observation, and referral; confers with interdisciplinary staff regarding an overall treatment plan for residents.
- Evaluates the progress of residents in relation to occupational therapy treatment provided through use of tests and observation; confers with nursing staff and physicians regarding effectiveness of treatment.
- Prepares progress reports, funding requests, and statistical reports relating to occupational therapy treatment program and resident needs and maintains treatment records as required.
- Participates as a member of the interdisciplinary team; gives evaluation and progress reports on residents. Designs and produces adaptive equipment, utensils, splints or other orthotic devices as needed for use by residents; instructs resident and staff in the use of the equipment.
- Coordinates management of facility equipment; contacts suppliers for service and maintenance of wheelchairs, geri chairs and power wheelchairs.
- Provides staff training on ergonomics, seating assessment, skin integrity, equipment and other related topics as required.
- Bilingualism (English and French) is considered an asset.

- You have a Bachelor of Science or equivalent in Occupational Therapy, and are registered with the College of Occupational Therapists of Nova Scotia;

- Dusts, cleans and polishes furniture, counters, shelving, walls, and window/door ledges;
- Cleans sinks, toilets, and bath facilities;
- Fills and replenishes supplies in resident rooms, nursing units, and rest rooms;
- Empties and cleans trash receptacles and places trash in trash pickup area;
- Sorts laundry into appropriate piles based on the type of laundry (linens, personal clothing);
- Operates washing machine using proper washing formulas;
- Operates dryer; loads clean, wet laundry into the machine and unloads the machine;

- Checks laundry for tears, holes, missing buttons, etc. and sorts clothing needing repair;
- Consistently ensures food quality, presentation, and service delivery meet established department standards. Ensures meals are plated attractively, the correct temperature and portion size, and that service is timely;
- Follows production sheets to guide food preparation and assist with cost control;
- Familiarizes self with the specific needs of each resident e.g., diet restrictions, allergies, and special requests/accommodations;
- Assists with the process for checking and receiving of deliveries and inventory control. Ensures all supplies are stored, labelled, and rotated properly;

- You have a High School diploma or GED;
