We are searching for a Clinical Resource Nurse to join our team at the Inverary Manor in Inverness, Nova Scotia.

Position Summary:

The Clinical Resource Nurse – IPAC, Wound Care, and Education is responsible for leading and supporting best practices in infection prevention and control (IPAC), wound care, and clinical education across the facility. This role ensures the delivery of safe, evidence-based, person-centered care in accordance with Nova Scotia Health guidelines, and provincial long-term care regulations.

The nurse collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to reduce infection risks, promote optimal wound healing, and support ongoing staff development and knowledge translation. This role is both clinical and office settings with occasional evening or weekend education sessions.

 

Reporting to the Director, Clinical Care, and scheduled on a 7-day rotation of 8-hour daytime shifts (8:00am – 4:00pm). This is a non-union role focused on care administration, coordination, staff onboarding, and admission processes. There may be occasional direct care responsibilities based on operational needs.

While there are no scheduled evening or holiday shifts, there may be a requirement to support outside of regular hours during exceptional circumstances. Time off will be provided in lieu of any overtime worked.

 

 Key Responsibilities:

Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC):

  • Implements and monitors IPAC policies and procedures in alignment with NS Health and Public Health guidance.
  • Conducts surveillance, outbreak management, and reporting of communicable diseases.
  • Provides leadership in hand hygiene, PPE use, environmental cleaning practices, and antimicrobial stewardship.
  • Trains staff on IPAC principles and compliance.
  • Conducts audits and supports quality improvement initiatives related to infection control.

 Wound Care:

  • Provides consultation, assessment, and support for complex wounds, pressure injuries, and skin integrity issues.
  • Develops individualized wound care plans and collaborates with the care team on implementation.
  • Monitors wound healing outcomes and updates treatment protocols based on best practices.
  • Trains staff in wound assessment, prevention, and management strategies.

Clinical Education & Practice Support:

  • Designs and delivers educational programs alongside Director of Care to support clinical skill development, policy updates, and quality care initiatives.
  • Promotes the use of evidence-based practice, clinical guidelines, and nursing standards.
  • Supports staff competency assessments and continuing education needs.
  • Collaborates with leadership on staff development planning and performance improvement.

 

Qualifications:

  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in good standing with the Nova Scotia College of Nursing (NSCN)
  • Minimum 3–5 years of Canadian nursing experience, preferably in long-term care, public health, or acute care
  • Certification or advanced training in: Infection Prevention and Control (e.g., IPAC Canada – CIC or equivalent) , Wound Care (e.g., International Interdisciplinary Wound Care Course – IIWCC, or equivalent)
  • Adult education or clinical teaching experience an asset
  • Knowledge of NS Health IPAC and LTC regulations
  • Strong communication, assessment, and coaching skills
