The Opportunity:

The primary purpose of the Health and Wellness Counsellor is to meet the social and emotional needs of students. The successful candidate will collaborate with students and staff to support student learning and well-being. The focus is on social and personal growth for students.

This role will support students and staff in understanding, preventing, and addressing mental wellbeing challenges.

The Health and Wellness Counsellor will support the vision, mission, and values of triOS College while contributing to a positive, supportive, and student-focused team environment of respect, integrity, dedication, and readiness, embracing diversity, and fostering inclusion. 

What you’ll be doing:

  • Provide one-on-one counseling to students addressing social, physical, spiritual, and emotional challenges. 
  • Provide a counseling program for students, including individual and/or small group counseling/social skills training.
  • Make recommendations to support academic and emotional needs based on data.
  • Crisis intervention services that support students.
  • Provide referrals to community resources as required and follow up to ensure the well-being of the student.
  • Conduct wellness workshops to educate students on the importance of healthy living, stress management, and behaviors to achieve wellness.
  • Participate and assist other team members in the delivery of student events and information sessions.
  • Lead and design professional development for faculty and staff regarding pertinent issues relating to social and mental well-being.
  • Act as a liaison with community agencies and allied professionals.
  • Assist with student Orientation activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What you bring to the position:

  • Current registration and membership in good standing with the appropriate accredited association (i.e.: Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers, College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario, Ontario Association of Child and Youth Care).
  • Experience in a similar role. 
  • Experience with Post Secondary Students is an asset.
  • Experience in crisis management & response is an asset.
  • Knowledge of local and regional community resources to promote timely referrals for students is essential.
  • Knowledge of how to apply provincial policies and regulations in the delivery of school counseling services. g., PHIPA, RHPA, Psychotherapy Act. 
  • Knowledge of emerging social-emotional issues affecting post-secondary students, and recommended research-based solutions.
  • Understanding legal and ethical frameworks for practice, including experience with electronic medical records/PHIP-compliant client management systems.
  • Ability to assess emergency situations of social and emotional nature and determine immediate appropriate action and follow-up requirements.
  • Very strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
