General Labourer

Leadbetter Foods has been a leader in the manufacturing and processing of food service and retail meat products for over 90 years. We focus on manufacturing meat products, including steak, hamburgers, sausages, and bacon  products which can be found in both food service and retail segments,

 

Position Objective

The General Labour will be responsible for working on the production line. This individual will be responsible for the operation of equipment for the manufacture of various products and will ensure all work performed adheres to all organizational standards as well as safety regulations and guidelines. This is a labour-intensive position, requiring individuals to perform repetitive tasks and stand for long periods of time.

To start, the work is primarily at our Brammer Road facility.

Position Summary:

The General Labour will be responsible for working on the production line.  They will ensure that products are produced and packaged in accordance with each product specification sheet and will ensure all work performed adheres to all organizational standards as well as safety regulations and guidelines and accordance with the Food Safety and Quality programs to ensure safe quality products are produced according to the regulations of the OHSA and regulations. This is a labour-intensive position, requiring individuals to perform repetitive tasks and stand for long periods of time.

To start, the work is primarily at our Brammer Road facility.

We are offering daytime shifts (6, 8, 11 AM and 2 PM) and night shift (9:30 PM to 5:30 AM)

Please note, end times for day shifts are not fixed and will depend on the demand per day.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure products, ingredients and packaging are handled in a manner to prevent contamination, following GMPs.
  • Produce and package products in accordance with specifications provided.
  • Perform production tasks as directed by Supervisor / Lead Hand; tasks include but are not limited to weighing, trimming, lifting, packing, clean up, labelling, bagging, metal detection.
  • Complete checks and subsequent documentation if required, in accordance with training provided.
  • Work in accordance with the SOPs from the Food Safety and Quality Programs in which training has been provided.
  • Report any issues to the Supervisor or QA
  • Placing packs of bacon into appropriate packaging, bags, or boxes
  • Remove finished goods cartons from conveyor and place on pallets.
  • Inspect products and packaging for basic quality defects.
  • Inspect and sort off-spec.
  • Lifting and stacking 10-40 lbs. boxes of product
  • Regularly inspect work environment for good housekeeping
  • Communicate effectively with Team Leaders and other employees.
  • Repetitive tasks
  • Standing in one spot for extended periods of time
  • Working in cold environment
  • Perform other duties in the Plant as required.

 

Education, Skills and Experience Required:

  • High school graduate or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a production environment is an advantage, but not essential as extensive training is provided.
  • Ability to lift heavy weights.
  • Be able to work in a cold environment and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Knowledge of GMPs is an advantage.
  • Highly motivated, team oriented and able to work independently.
  • Adaptable and flexible

Shipping Supervisor

Summary:

Supervise and schedule the Shipping / Receiving Team.  Ensure that all products received and shipped by Leadbetter Foods Inc. are handled and in a manner to prevent contamination, damage or degradation.   

This role is Monday to Friday 8 AM - 5 PM, but depends on need and demand, some weekends and/or overtime might also be required depending on demand.

The role will be based at our Hughes Road facility in Orillia.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage/Supervise the Shippers and Receivers in the Plant, including scheduling to ensure all loads are covered and orders are met
  • Work with Logistics and the order desk to organize deliveries and incoming loads
  • Work with Production to make sure all finished product is removed to coolers/ freezers
  • Ensure all employees are carrying out their roles in accordance with Health and Safety as well as Food Safety policies and procedures
  • Keep track of inventory and ensure FIFO is being followed while utilizing company ERP system
  • Ensure all incoming and outgoing loads have the appropriate paperwork and meet all specified criteria
  • Maintain the coolers and freezers; ensure all product is stored correctly and neatly, and arranged in a manner to facilitate FIFO
  • Complete and check paperwork as required in accordance with the training provided
  • Ensuring that all shipping / receiving staff are trained in their specific tasks
  • Perform other duties in the Plant as required

 

Education, Skills and Experience Required:

  • Third Level Qualification in a relevant field or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working in a similar role
  • Minimum 1 year Supervisory experience
  • Previous work experience in the food industry is an asset but not essential as extensive training is provided
  • Highly motivated with good communication skills, team oriented and able to work independently
  • Adaptable and flexible
  • Fork lift & Tow Motor License required
  • Ability to lift heavy weights
  • Be able to work in a cold environment and stand for extended periods of time
