Job Title: Tutor 
Clients: Children in grades K to 6
Duration: 10 weeks starting in mid-June
Hours: 37.5 hours/week
Wage: $18.20/hour includes vacation pay
Location: To be determined (a public library or other public location)

Screening Requirements: 
You must be:
<ul>
<li style="color: black;">a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or a person on whom refugee protection has been conferred</li>
<li style="color: black;">not working full-time at another job</li>
<li style="color: black;">completed at least one year of post-secondary, vocational or technical program</li>
<li style="color: black;">16 years of age or older</li>
<li style="color: black;">willing to sign a waiver</li>
<li style="color: black;">willing to get a criminal record check and vulnerable sector check done</li>
<li style="color: black;">have access to a vehicle and able to travel</li>
</ul>
 
Tutor Job Description
As a tutor, you will:
<ul>
<li>participate in training, set your own weekly schedule, communicate with parents and teachers, and create unique lesson plans for each student</li>
<li>tutor 30 or more students in one-on-one sessions 50 minutes a week</li>
<li>work independently</li>
</ul>
 
While this position is an independent one and requires tutors to take initiative and set their own schedule, we offer many supports.  We will give you the necessary training, resources, peer support and information you will need to succeed. Training and resources are paid and mileage is reimbursed.

<li>Experience working with children ages 5 to 12</li>
<li>Excellent organizational skills</li>
<li>Excellent communication skills</li>
<li>Excellent interpersonal skills</li>
<li>Excellent problem-solving skills</li>
<li>Strong ability to work independently</li>
<li>Strong ability to be creative and innovative</li>
</ul>
 Assets: 
<ul>
<li>Ability to tutor French students in grades K to 6</li>
<li>Knowledge of effective literacy teaching strategies</li>
<li>Experience working with children with learning disabilities</li>
</ul>
You will be responsible to:
<ul>
<li>attend and participate in all orientation and training sessions </li>
<li>organize your own schedule, coordinating it with parents’ schedules</li>
<li>respond to emails in a timely manner</li>
<li>develop unique lesson plans for each student</li>
<li>report to your supervisor/mentor regularly</li>
<li>maintain good communication with parents </li>
<li>write final reports for each child at the end of the tutoring term</li>
<li>submit timesheets and mileage sheets bi-weekly to your supervisor</li>
<li>keep all information organized and confidential </li>
<li>assist in collecting evaluation information</li>
</ul>
