Civil Construction Foreman

Sid Grabell Contracting (SGC) is a well-established electrical and civil utility contractor serving industrial, commercial, and utility clients throughout the Niagara Region. We are looking for an experienced Civil Construction Working Foreman to lead small field crews of 1–5 team members on underground utility projects, working alongside them to ensure safe, high-quality installations.

This is a hands-on leadership role for a field professional with civil construction experience, strong safety focus, and the ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and utility locates.

Key Responsibilities

· Lead and work alongside field crews of 1–5 team members on underground utility construction projects, including hydro duct banks, vaults, pull boxes, and pole base installations.

· Operate or coordinate the operation of small heavy equipment such as mini excavators, backhoes, and skid steers.

· Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and site specifications to ensure work meets design and safety requirements.

· Perform pre-job planning, tailboards, hazard assessments, and complete all required safety paperwork.

· Mentor and guide crew members, to maintain high workmanship and safety standards.

· Manage day-to-day field execution, including equipment, materials, and scheduling to meet project deadlines.

· Enforce strict adherence to all safety protocols, including Ontario Health and Safety Act, utility locates, and company safety procedures.

Qualifications

· 5+ years of experience in civil utility or underground construction, including crew supervision or foreman experience.

· Hands-on experience operating mini excavators, backhoes, and skid steers.

· Ability to read and work from blueprints, drawings, and site plans.

· Knowledge of underground utility installation practices and materials (duct banks, vaults, pull boxes, pole bases).

· Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

· Valid Ontario driver’s licence and clean driving record.

· Commitment to safety, quality workmanship, and teamwork.

Assets (not required but preferred):

· Experience with hydro utility construction standards.
